A super cool public art/ architecture project is coming to downtown NYC. Mayor Bloomberg and the Alliance for Downtown New York (my Neighborhood!) announced that the first Urban Umbrella has been unveiled at 100 Broadway.
The Umbrellas won the 2010 urbanSHED Competition to design a new form of sidewalk shed (read: those ugly things that construction folks put up when they want to keep falling debris off the sidewalk). It’s nice to see practical and elegant design playing a part in the City’s most basic of structures.
