Hey Folks, today’s post is going to be quick because I am working on a new design for a show. “Drunken City” is going to be opening at the end of April and I have been asked to design a backdrop for a black box of a “nonspecific” NYC location.
As you might have guessed from the title the play centers around a night of drunkenness and the backdrop has to feel like we are looking at the city through that sketch lens of drink while still looking professional.
The space already has one brick wall and we are on a tight budget (oh the glory of working in NYC). Because of this, I am working using the wall as an element in the design by creating a backdrop that would start out looking realistic and gradually become more like a drawing from “Harold and The Purple Crayon” as you work your way around the space.
That’s it so far. Now I am off to play with color theory and model boxes. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
